If you are ready to replace your glass sliding door, you are going to need to remove the existing door before you are able to install the new one. Removing the door is a fairly straight forward process, but unless you have experienced the project before, you may have problems getting the door out of its frame. To make sure that the process goes as smoothly as possible, go over the basic steps outlined below and then begin removing your old door and getting ready to install your new door.
Step 1) Protect Your Floor – The first step is going to be to make sure that you are not going to damage your floors while you are taking the door out of its frame. The glass sliding doors are incredibly heavy, and because of this, you will want to make sure that there are blankets, moving pads, or other types of protection on the floor before you start disassembling it.
Step 2) Remove The Screen Door – Now you will need to remove the sliding screen door to allow access to your glass sliding door. You can lift the door from the bottom, applying pressure against the rollers, while pulling the bottom of the door out from the frame. With enough pressure, the door should release itself, giving you access to your glass sliding door.
Step 3) Lift The Bottom Of The Door – Once you have access to the glass sliding door, you want to use the same method that you used to remove the screen door. While lifting on the bottom of the door, you are going to want to apply pressure by pulling out on the bottom of the door. For this step, it may be easier if you have a second pair of hands to help you remove it.
