It is a material that will never go out of style: here’s how to clean wood floors. Antique or modern style wooden house furniture have a certain something in history, also only a piece arranged specifically in various rooms gives it that extra touch that makes home even more valuable. Provided that we pamper our wooden furniture, defending them from moisture, dust and pests, their main enemies.
If you have a home decor in lacquered wood, take care not to be too complicated. Simply wash the various furniture with a cloth soaked in water and neutral liquid detergent, absolutely free of abrasives, or a solution obtained by mixing two decilitres of rubbing alcohol with a few drops of pure ammonia. Rinse well and immediately dry with a soft clean cloth.
Wood treated with wax
This red wine vinegar comes to our aid in which we’ve got to soak a cloth to quickly jump on the wood previously dusted. Then we make a second pass with a product containing furniture Polish, whether it is a solid flat surface, liquid for those with carvings. Finally one last dried and polished with a soft, clean cloth.
Ebony, teak and walnut
For these two beautiful woods and details we use linseed oil that we will spend in the crevices and in helping us with a small brush, then drying and inlays shine with the usual cloth. For the walnut, instead, we have to pass before a cloth soaked in kerosene, expect it to absorb and then a dry cloth.
Natural wood will become even more beautiful with a soft brush, following the grain of the wood. In the case of light wood at least a couple of times a year we need to clean it with a soft cloth soaked in hydrogen peroxide to 24 volumes.
Antique wood and gilded
First we have to frequently clean the various carvings with a soft brush. We use specific products to those found in paint, then pass a cloth with beeswax or specifically for this type of furniture. Allow to dry and shine. The gilded wood should be treated in a very delicate with turpentine heated in a double boiler, but there are also the old, dear grandma’s remedies. For example for dirt that does not go away we stroke the gold with half a raw onion. Or to revive the gold plating we use warm onion juice, then dry with a soft clean cloth.
